For fire escape hinges, the opener of the window must be more than .33 square metre with the bottom of the opening part of the window at no higher than 1100mm from the floor. This equates to a clear unrestricted opening of 450mm x 750mm as a minimum.
When upgrading the locking system to shootbolt, the minimum width of the opener is 470mm.
If your window is more than 1500mm tall then it is strongly recommended that you upgrade to toughened glass to ensure you meet building regulations.
